Moy Moy's Lawn Maintenance

There were only three of us tonight, but my dad and I were really craving some Moy’s after a laborious day in the back yard. Mom came along for the adventure.

We got there relatively early, maybe about 5:30 pm. We were the only customers there, aside from a few takeout orders. Mrs. Moy chatted with us for a little while about how nice the weather was and how busy they were Friday night. Apparently, they had quite a few customers; some stayed well past closing time. Sometimes it is hard for Mrs. Moy to keep up with all of the tables.

Tonight the food was wonderful. The hot and sour soup was delicious, even though it gives me the hiccups every time I eat it. After our meal, Peter Moy (Mrs. Moy’s son) came out from the kitchen to talk sports with my dad. Peter single-handedly takes care of all the cooking using the family recipes and techniques passed down from the great Mr. Moy. He loves to follow televised sports of any kind. He is also an excellent bowler with an average score of 199. He was pretty concerned about the UC basketball coach Bob Huggins, who may be getting fired.

Mrs. Moy came over and somehow the conversation changed to lawn maintenance. My mom asked her if Peter does all the lawn maintenance. She got a puzzled look on her face and said, “No Way!” She went on to explain, “They don’t do anything! I do everything at home. They do nothing!” She has to hire out lawn maintenance since none of her children will take care of it. My mom has a special ability to tease Mrs. Moy and get her all worked up. It is good to laugh with them. However, sometimes we leave the restaurant concerned that we might have stirred up some old family arguments.

After our meal Mrs. Moy brought us a treat of sliced honeydew melon to go with our fortune cookies. Wisdom for tonight: “Contentment will come to you when you go with the flow.”

Oh, Champs-Elysées

Mrs. Moy was a bit flustered after preparing a huge take-out order when we walked in. However, she bounced back quickly as usual and got right down to business at our table. We did not have much of a chance to discuss life with her tonight since we were hosting a dinner guest. Lucien was visiting GE on business from France, so my dad invited him to join the family for Moy Moy’s. We discussed Europe, family, and food as we enjoyed our meals. I also brought a six-pack of an Ohio microbrew to share: Great Lakes Brewery, "Elliot Ness" Amber Ale.

My mom told Mrs. Moy that she would take her to Paris so they could have some fun. I envisioned Mrs. Moy driving around on the Champs-Elysées in her huge black Cadillac.
